I’m having fun making my baby quilt. I have found an easier quicker way of making the square pouches for the puffed quilt. Instead of pinning each pleat on the 3 sides I have found a pinching technique which doesn’t require pinning.
Sew about 6 stitches along the first side. Line up the bottom side with the bottom of the underneath square as shown in the first picture. Pinch the resulting flap and line up with the edge and then sew over it making it flat. Then repeat on the other 3 sides
I had a great time off for Christmas and now I’m ready to start a new project. The last few weeks I have been finishing a few bits and pieces and planning my next few months.I saw a puffed baby quilt on Facebook a while ago and have been dying to try making it.
To start off with I cut some 4.75 inch squares for the tops and 4 inch squares for the bottoms. The difference in size is so that when they are sewn together there is room for toy stuffing.
To prepare for sewing, I pinned 3 sides together with a pleat, leaving the fourth side open so it can be stuffed
After stuffing the square, the fourth side is sewn up creating this rather cute unit:
My very popular advent calendars are back this year. I am currently making them and will post in the next few weeks. These are a wonderful gift for any child (or lucky adult) to get in the Christmas mood. Each one fabric-pocket calendar with room to hide a treat for each day leading up to Christmas!
I am also taking orders for custom memory quilts (scroll down for more on these special gifts). These are custom-made from cherished clothes and I’ll work with the client closely to ensure the design is just right. Take a look at my past memory quilts for an idea of what I can create for you.
I also have some new quilts on my Etsy website; these sell fast. There is a space themed children’s quilt, a lovely Noah’s Ark quilt and an ABC quilt.
I have also added in a really cute dinosaur bag ideal for a monster loving child. It features a lovely dinosaur design with a zipper pocket for his mouth, sturdy straps and a lined, draw-string main compartment.
I also make quilts to order. This can be any size, design, colours. I specialise in making memory quilts / blankets. If you have some baby clothes or children’s clothes you are not sure what to do with why not send them to me and I can make them into a memory quilt.
If someone close to you has just passed away and you want a visual way of remembering them you can send me their old clothes and I can make a quilt / blanket / throw out of them.
If you have a celebration coming up, a wedding or birthday, I can make a special unique quilt from materials that hold a memory.
These are the latest memory quilts I have made. The top one was made for a boy and the second one for his sister. Both of these quilts were made from old baby and children’s clothes.
This is made out of boys clothes. I choose this design as it was a male recipient. It was finished by quilting in the borders and in the blocks. If you would like a quilt like this or a different design let me know and I can give you an accurate price.
I have been creating quilts to sell on Etsy for the last 2 years. My main interest is making custom quilts. The photos are examples. There are many options. You can choose fabric and then send it to me or I can find fabric with your guidance on colours and design. Likewise with the design, we can work out a totally new design or you can choose one that I have already made before.
Another option is to send me old clothes to make a sentimental quilt.
The price depends upon the size and the complexity of the design.
If you are interested please give me a shout. This was the review from the lady I made the white quilt
Julie has been an incredible partner over the last three months. She helped me create a custom quilt for a very special bride which was well beyond my expectations! Her patience, ability to listen and create such a beautiful keepsake is truly amazing!! I am so grateful to have worked with Julie on this special project. I recommend her highly!Â
I have designed this quilt for an interior design company in London to be placed in their clients house. If you would like the same please contact me, it can be made in any colour combination.
